Minor Repair Recommendations for you to try at Home
Through the years of handing down heirloom Ceramic Christmas Trees, some dings and breaks can occur. Some are minor and some very major.
When the repairs look minor, you should be able to do them yourself.
We recommend you do things yourself, since shipping is so expensive these days. The box size needed is so large, that it can be around $100.00 both ways. Also, ceramic Christmas trees are at their most delicate and vulnerable when they are broken.
Here are our Recommendations:
Broken pieces: If it appears that it can be glued back into place. Our recommendation is for you to use 527 Bond glue, and attach it to the tree, making sure to seat it completely together. For chips: We recommend you getting some dark green acrylic paint and touching those up. That’s what we do. If you want to also get some gloss clear paint, then you can apply that (dab it), after the paint drys, as well. Star Tip Broken: Mostly, you can just also touch that up with the paint, but if you would like to try fill it in some before painting, we could send you some bisque powder to mix with some Elmer’s White Glue and touch that up. Then paint it as noted above for chips. Broken off Christmas light: That can be tricky, because folks through the years have used so many different types of glue. Our recommendation is to try to carefully dig it out with an Exacto knife. DO NOT USE A DRILL… one slip of the hand and your tree is toast. We hope this works out for you and your heirloom tree. We can always make a new tree and/or base for you if you like, if the repairs you do are not successful.
We hope this works out for you and your heirloom tree. If you would like to discuss your situation before attempting to do your minor repairs, please give us a call. We at Fifth Avenue Designs, Inc. can speak with you to help put your mind at ease.
